Preparation & Celebration

Requirements for Godparents

A Godparent’s role is not an honor, it is a responsibility. If something happens that  parents cannot raise their children in the Catholic faith, then it is up to the Godparents to promise (at the child’s Baptism) to do everything in their power to fulfill this obligation.

  • Must be fully initiated in the Catholic faith
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must be in good standing with the church
  • Provide a Baptism certificate
  • (Only one Godparent needs to be Catholic)

Step 2: Preparation  Through Two Sessions

Attending two preparation sessions is only required for your first child’s Baptism.

The preparation process will consist of two parts and parents (and godparents if they would like)
may take them in any order that is convenient for them.
